ESPACE UHODA – LIEGE
15 years ago or so, when George Uhoda met street artist SPYK for an exhibition project, the latter worked in a 3 by 3 metre workshop with no window and a single 60 watt bulb. The artist explained that he did not require much light to work. He usually painted by night. On the wall hung a large spray-painted work, surprising both in quality and workmanship.
Today, his work has evolved to recall some of the today’s great masters of photography and contemporary painting.
Spyk's visual world is dominated by American landscapes recalling writers such as Bukowski, Fante, Burroughs or Shelby, who are indeed major influences of his work.
